I grew up in beautiful Port Stephens, NSW, and moved to Cairns when I was 12. After finishing high school, I went straight into the banking industry and spent 16 years with one of the major banks. During that time, I worked across a range of roles from teller to management and everything in between . During my time I discovered my love for home lending and helping people achieve their home-buying dreams.
Over the years, I’ve found my focus shifting more toward building genuine relationships and delivering great customer service. I love being able to assist my clients — whether it’s buying their very first home or their tenth — and being a part of that journey with them.
After working with Astute professionally for many years, I knew it was a team that truly cared about its clients. Joining them felt like a natural fit, and I’m proud to be part of a supportive and experienced group that helps clients with all aspects of their financial journey — from home loans and insurance to financial planning and accounting.

I found every time I rang the office with a query the phone was answered promptly. Gus and his team stayed in contact at all times either by email or phone just to make sure I had complete understanding of the forms I was signing and the procedures they were taking to finalise the loan. I was never left wondering what happens next.
The staff in the Cairns office were amazing. The receptionist was the best I have ever encountered in a business and any staff that walked past us said hello. The entire office appears to be a very friendly, happy and vibrant workplace!
My husband and I went to Astute today, firstly met with Shae at the front reception and had a chat with her. It was lovely to chat with such a friendly happy lady who made us feel welcome.
We went upstairs and met with John Watts for some financial advice. We have known John Watts for over 10 years now, and truly admire his honesty and ‘no beating around the bush business eiquette’. Morene Rumble helped my partner and I get our finances in order with a personal loan to start saving for a house. I would highly recommend Morene to everyone, she’s very easy to talk to, friendly and makes you feel very comfortable with any situation.
We have been using John since we bought our first house in 2008 and taken sound advice from him in all our finance dealing ever since; which has included, opening a business, building our second house and now purchasing an investment property. We trust the advice given to us and not understanding the finance world hugely rely on the knowledge given to us in making decisions.
