I classify myself as a Cairns local with growing up on the Atherton Tablelands for most of my childhood until making the move to Cairns to complete year 12. I love living here as I enjoy the lifestyle Cairns has to offer. If I am not working, I am either out doing a hike, sunbaking on the beach or out on the reef enjoying a luxury day on one of the sand cays.
I started at Astute in January 2022 as a client manager. My role as a client manager was to assist the client from when their application was lodged off to the lender all the way through until settlement. The most important part of the role was ensuring the client had a positive experience from start to finish.
After gaining experience as a client manager, I realised just how much passion I have for helping people purchase their dream home, whilst educating them on the process so it’s as exciting and stress free as possible. I decided to take my passion further and become a fully qualified Mortgage broker.
My journey as a mortgage broker has been rewarding so far and I am so excited to continue building new relationships and strengthen my existing relationships with clients by ensuring they have a positive experience that will stick with them forever.
Astute are very professional & helpful. Would recommend these guys to anyone looking at refinancing or purchasing. Started with this team when they were in their little office, my how they have grown. Special thanks to Verena for all her help but all the staff are wonderful and great with the little ones as well J Thanks heaps.
John and the team looked after us on many fronts from mortgage, superannuation and even life insurance. We even compared rates on our new vehicle lease and Astute came through better than any bank.

Being self employed is always a bit of a struggle when it comes to home loans. The amazing team at Astute made this happen for us. Their down to earth yet professional approach is very reassuring. Excellent customer service and follow up throughout the process that made it less nerve racking. I found every time I rang the office with a query the phone was answered promptly. Gus and his team stayed in contact at all times either by email or phone just to make sure I had complete understanding of the forms I was signing and the procedures they were taking to finalise the loan. I was never left wondering what happens next.
The staff in the Cairns office were amazing. The receptionist was the best I have ever encountered in a business and any staff that walked past us said hello. The entire office appears to be a very friendly, happy and vibrant workplace!
We have been using John since we bought our first house in 2008 and taken sound advice from him in all our finance dealing ever since; which has included, opening a business, building our second house and now purchasing an investment property. We trust the advice given to us and not understanding the finance world hugely rely on the knowledge given to us in making decisions. We thank Verena very much with her patience throughout each deal and her simple way of explaining the overwhelming fluff that the banks put on paper. Johns stickmen and drawings helped us immensely 🙂 We really feel like we have actually made some good friends when dealing with Astute.
